| New Zealand Wildlife Facts |
 |
| The New Zealand Opossum
originates from Australia, but was purposely imported
to New Zealand with the intention of establishing a fur
industry in the mid 1860s. The rate of spread has increased
over the past 140 years, producing a possum population
of approximately 90 million at the present time! The possum
also inhabits 90% of areas in New Zealand! |
