Snapper spawning appears to be linked to a surface water temperature of about 18 degrees Celsius. Snapper spawn repeatedly at different times over the 12 to 15 week breeding season. This is thought to be increase the chances of at least some eggs and larvae encountering conditions favourable for survival. After spawning, snapper eggs drift on the surface for about two days before hatching. The larvae swim weakly in currents and eventually settle to the seabed after about three weeks. Small snapper avoid predators by hiding among seagrass, seaweed and reefs.

The Bay of Plenty ocean waters were certainly aptly named. Plenty of fish and a wide variety of species.

Only a 45 minute drive from Lake Aniwhenua Lodge.

Come sports fishing and enjoy all the comforts of a large charter boat with ample deck space for playing your fish.

Choose inshore or offshore saltfly fishing for a wide variety of fish. Kahawai, Trevally, Tuna, Albacore, Yellow Fin Tuna, Snapper and Shark, to name but a few.

 

Most salt water angling is in view of New Zealand’s active volcano White Island

Dolphins are a common site and many bird species can be seen. You may even be lucky enough to see a pod of Orca (Killer Whales), but if hooked, these are strictly catch and release.

If you choose, you can combine the day with saltfly fishing and general game fishing.
