expertise to enable you to confidently fish for these Rainbow
trout and Brown trout.
There's always trout fishing action here, whether it be nymph,
wet fly, dry fly or spinning.
Guiding is fly or spin fishing from shore or boat.
Lake Aniwhenua is a relatively new lake, only being formed
by the damming of the Rangitaiki River for hydro purposes
in 1980. The waters encompass 264 hectares and it's been likened
to a 'gold fish pond in the middle of the river'.

What makes this lake so special is it's shallow average
depth of only 8 feet (2.5 metres). It's not just an
early morning / late evening fishery, it
fishes extremely well throughout the entire day. There
are no hidden depths for the trout to disappear into,
thus it's ideally suited to fly fishing.
Light penetration stimulates weed growth which houses
an abundance of insect life, which in turn supplies
a steady food supply for the trout to feed on. A vital
necessity for this self-sustaining wild fishery.
