Hidden in the heart of the eastern Bay of Plenty, and within an hour drive of Rotorua, Whakatane or Taupo is this wonderful holiday retreat. Lake Aniwhenua Lodge Motel offers quality and affordable accommodation.

Situated in the small rural valley of Galatea and nestled between Te Urewera National Park and Kaingaroa Forest and close to Whirinaki Forest Park. This self-catering lodge is idyllically set on 7 acres of land with farm deer and an ostrich that love being hand fed. There are extensive gardens with private access and magnificent views across Lake Aniwhenua. The modern, rustic design blends beautifully with the landscape. The spectacular evening sunsets of orange, red or pink are reflected over the lake waters.

Everyone seems to fall in love with the place on arrival, with many guests extending their stay as long as possible and returning year after year. The peaceful surroundings provide a stress free atmosphere to just rest and relax or a wonderful haven to return to after a day of activity.

Lake Aniwhenua and the surrounding rivers and streams are world renowned for wild trout fishing.  An area so diverse, there’s never any crowding for fishing spots. Some rivers can be fished with not another angler in sight all day.

Deer and wild pig and small game inhabit the nearby forests and hunting is available 365 days of the year.

You can go trout fishing,deer or pig hunting by yourself or we can organize a personally guided fish or hunt to maximize your enjoyment and success.
There are many other outdoor activities in the area such as tramping, kayaking, river rafting, bird watching, water skiing, boating, jet boat tours, helicopter flights, mountain biking or playing golf.

You can take in the local sights and visit the Ostrich farm or have a tour of the organic winery and perhaps leave with a taste or a bottle or two.

Take a nice 45 minute drive to the coast to meet up with White Island tours and see New Zealands only active volcano.

For those travelling further afield to partake in the ‘Great Walk’ at Lake Waikaremoana, we offer a handy stop-over point for the weary traveller.
